Audi SUV models: current range

The Audi SUV models are named with a Q in front of a number. There are regularly styled boxy SUVs and Sportback models that feature a sloping, coupe-style roofline. Electric SUVs have the e-tron name as a suffix, while high-performance models have an S or RS before the Q.

Audi Q2

A compact SUV, the Audi Q2 comes with a premium interior and a raised driving position. The rear seats aren’t as comfortable as you’d expect, though, and high-spec models tend to get a little expensive.

Audi Q3

The Audi Q3 is a premium SUV that features plenty of the latest tech and lots of cabin space. The downside is that it’s not that enjoyable to drive compared to some other alternatives.

Audi Q3 Sportback

Almost identical to the Q3, the Audi Q3 Sportback is a sleeker, more style-conscious alternative to the more traditional SUV shape of its sibling. Unfortunately, it drives like the regular Q3 and a sloping roofline means less room for rear passengers.

Audi Q4 e-tron

The classy Audi Q4 e-tron brings electric power to the Audi SUV range and is packed with technology and a high-quality interior. One of the drawbacks is that the controls are a little fiddly.

Audi Sportback Q4 e-tron

As with the Q3 Sportback, the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron is a sporty-looking alternative to its base car, in this case the Q4 e-tron – but that coupé-like rear means less headroom in the back seats.

Audi Q5

A mid-sized family SUV, the Audi Q5 will cover long journeys quietly and comfortably. It’s a great family car, but not that exciting to drive.

Audi Q5 Sportback

The Audi Q5 Sportback is comfortable and well made, but the sporty roofline means that the Sportback isn’t as practical as the standard Q5 SUV – and you have to pay extra for the privilege.

Audi Q7

Any shortlist of big, practical, comfortable seven-seat SUVs should include the Audi Q7 – especially if you also want something that exudes quality and comes loaded with equipment. If it was a little more fun to drive, it would be even more appealing.

Audi Q8

One of the biggest SUVs on sale, the striking Audi Q8 comes with loads of kit. But it doesn’t have seven seats, which makes it less practical than many of its alternatives.

Audi Q8 e-tron

The Audi Q8 e-tron is the all-electric version of the Q8 premium SUV, offering impressive interior space and high-end features. The cabin is a little drab for such a high-tech car, though.

Audi Sportback Q8 e-tron

The Q8 Sportback e-tron is sportier looking than the regular Q8 e-tron and now has an improved range. Sadly, there hasn’t been a similar improvement in equipment levels.

Audi SQ2

If you want the raised driving position and bold looks of an SUV, but with some extra performance, the Audi SQ2 is one option. It’s a tad expensive, though, and doesn’t have the most practical interior.

Audi SQ5

The Audi SQ5 is a high-performance variant of the family SUV and is now more efficient than ever. A tranche of new high-tech equipment is also welcome.

Audi SQ5 Sportback

Bringing the Sportback vibes to the SQ5, the sporty coupe-like SQ5 Sportback SUV offers plenty of punch from its engine, but isn’t as practical as the standard SQ5.

Audi SQ7

Fitting a tuned engine in the seven-seat Q7 SUV gives you the Audi SQ7, with the pace to match some hot hatches. However, it doesn’t feel all that dramatic to drive and it is very expensive.

Audi SQ8

One of the fastest diesel-powered SUVs currently on sale, the Audi SQ8 is available with lots of technology. Unfortunately, lots of these features are reserved for (very expensive) top-spec Vorsprung cars.

Audi RS Q3

The Audi RS Q3 is a performance SUV with a lovely interior that makes travelling in it enjoyable. The lower, lighter Audi RS 3 is even more fun to drive, though.

Audi RS Q3 Sportback

Identical to the RS Q3 in all but body shape, the RS Q3 Sportback has all the performance and comfort, but yields some practicality to its boxier sibling.

Audi RS Q8

The Audi RS Q8 is incredibly quick and very comfortable – which is fitting for the most expensive RS model Audi builds. The price of some optional extras is still pretty eye-watering, though.

Audi SUV FAQs

Audi generally scores well for reliability so you can expect its models to be well-built and reliable. Audi SUV models tend to perform well in industry reliability surveys, with buyers generally happy with the quality of the product and any issues are normally isolated and minor.

Audis come with a three-year/60,000-mile warranty with the option to extend it to five years/90,000 miles. The chances of having to make a warranty claim are slightly lower than for a BMW or Mercedes, but a Lexus is generally more robust.

The Audi SUV range has a couple of models with hybrid variants, in the forms of the Q3 and Q5 (including Sportback versions) plug-in hybrids. The Q3 powertrains use a combination of a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine and an electric motor, with the small battery offering 29 miles of EV range. The Q5 hybrid comes with more power (299bhp, compared to 245bhp for the Q3 hybrid), thanks to a 2.0-litre petrol engine, while a slightly larger battery gives 39 miles of EV range.
There are currently two all-electric Audi SUVs, the Q4 e-tron (and Q4 Sportback e-tron variant) and the Q8 e-tron (and Q8 e-tron Sportback). The Q4 has an official range of up to 314 miles, while the Q8 has a choice of two battery sizes, the largest offering a 330-mile range.
With a total of 19 models in the Audi SUV range, there’s something for almost every budget. The Audi Q2 props up the range, costing just over £28,000 and there are models at almost every price point up to the £130k-plus you can pay for the top-spec Audi RS Q8
The cheapest model in the Audi SUV range is the Audi Q2 which has 10 variants (including the higher-performance SQ2) and costs from just over £28,000 up to over £46,000.
There are some large models in the Audi SUV range, but the daddy is the Q7, which at 5,067mm is longer than the Q8. That’s also reflected in the spacious and practical interior.
At 4,216mm, the Audi Q2 is the smallest car in the Audi SUV range. That’s still over four metres, though, so ‘small’ perhaps isn’t the most accurate way of describing the Q2.
Looking forward is always a good idea when choosing a car and, with that in mind, we’re going to have to pick the Q4 e-tron, an all-electric Audi SUV that hints at the future of the brand’s models. And with prices starting at a bit over £50,000, the cost is worth it for the environmental peace of mind.
