Used Peugeot 108 pros and cons

+ Looks cool

+ Easy to drive

+ Good on fuel

- Noisy on the motorway

- Cramped back seats

- Feels cheap inside

Is a used Peugeot 108 a good car?

From the outset the Peugeot 108 has all of the important small city car boxes ticked. It’s cheap to buy, costs peanuts to run, has dinky dimensions and looks pretty cool, too.

Its tiny, frugal engine has more than enough oomph to feel pretty nippy in and around town, and even though it’s a bit noisy if you start to work what little performance it has, it’s not an unpleasant sound. It’s not quite so happy out on the motorway, though, where the engine starts to feel out of its depth and you notice there’s not much in the way of sound deadening.

Regardless, the 108 was a big improvement on the 107 when it replaced that car in 2014, feeling just a touch more refined, with better engines and more on-board kit. That said, you don’t get many luxuries, but later models have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is impressive.

If you’re considering a Peugeot 108, it’s also worth checking out the mechanically almost identical Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo, as choosing between them is largely down to personal preference. The Volkswagen Up and Hyundai i10 are two more alternatives, with both feeling nicer inside.

What to look for when buying a second hand Peugeot 108

Peugeot 108 reliability is pretty good, regularly finding itself around the middle of the pack in ownership surveys. This is typically because when something does go wrong, it’s cheap and easy to fix.

With these models being cheap to buy and run, they’re quite common for young or new drivers to buy, so take extra care to look out for any signs of damage inside and out. Also the clutch could have extra wear from learner drivers; you’ll want to look for a very high biting point.

Peugeot 108 FAQs

Peugeot might not have the best reputation for reliability, but the 108 appears to do fairly well in owner reports. Repairs are generally pretty cheap, which is always reassuring.

Yes, some models will have smartphone mirroring, but this tends to only be on later models.

No, the Peugeot 108 does not have sat nav, but if it comes with smartphone mirroring, you can use the maps apps on your phone.

The answer to this depends which engine and trim level you go for, but it is typically low, ranging from car insurance groups six to 12.
